
Junior Mechanical Engineer
Qualifications:
- Bachelor graduation in engineering or
honours science from a university of recognized standing and eligible for
membership in a provincial engineering association, plus a minimum of 2 to 5
years practical working experience.
- Experience at CANDU sites executing
work activities in a radiation environment
- Good knowledge of standard design
practices and quality assurance programs such as company QA programs, ISO
9000, or CAN/CSA Z299.
- Familiarity with material testing particularly
ultrasonic and eddy-current non-destructive testing.
- Thorough understanding of CANDU reactor components,
materials, and degradation mechanisms.
- Demonstrates through knowledge and
understanding of procedures processes, equipment and techniques, both in
theory and practice
- Must be capable of communicating
technical and non-technical information within and externally.
- Must be available outside normal
working hours and willing to work shiftwork and travel to sites on short
notice to respond to urgent service issues
- Must be willing to work in a
radiation environment and be designated a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW)
Responsibilities:
- Assists or evaluates, selects and
applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria using
judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
- Provides technical guidance to
Assistant Engineers or support employees assigned on a common project.
- Prepares or contributes to technical
reports, project execution plans, inspection and test plans and resourced
project schedules.
- Assists with project engineering,
with responsibilities on technical or commercial endeavours of moderate scope.
- Interprets work assignment
instructions, analyses design requirements, experimental plans, selects
procedures, techniques and equipment, and may propose appropriate
recommendations and/or alternatives.
- Participates in inspections at
reactor sites in a supervisory capacity, which requires interfacing with
clients during this work, responsibility for the quality work being performed
and the safety of staff performing the work.
- May provide technical guidance to clients and other
groups for assigned inspection services including equipment preparation,
system operation, site execution and application of results.
- Assists in configuration control of
equipment: reviewing and making changes to equipment, and providing guidance
to upgrades or new inspection tooling.
